Miss Universe Puerto Rico hosts Mardi Gras Carnival in San Juan – Cruise Industry News
Carnival Cruise Line’s celebration cruise after the christening of its new flagship Mardi Gras last Saturday made its first stop with a stopover in San Juan, Puerto Rico, according to a press release.
As part of the Oct. 26 festivities, reigning Miss Universe Puerto Rico Estefania Soto-Torres and new Miss Universe Puerto Rico Michelle Colón welcomed “very special guests” to their home island, Carnival said. Guests were Miss Universe Andrea Meza, Mardi Gras Godmother and Miss Universe, Dominican Republic, Kimberly Jiménez and Miss USA Asya Branch, as well as Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy.
Mardi Gras was named at a “Universe of Fun” celebration on October 23 in Port Canaveral, Florida. The celebration marked the first ship christening ceremony held in the United States since the cruise industry restarted this summer. Godmother Jiménez blessed the ship in English and Spanish and activated the traditional champagne bottle breaking, officially naming the ship.
“We are delighted to be back in Puerto Rico and allowing our destinations to participate in the celebration of our new ship,” said Duffy. “And to be greeted by the current and future Miss Universe, Puerto Rico made her even more special.”
The Mardi Gras is the first cruise ship in the Americas to be fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and features BOLT, the first roller coaster at sea.
The 5,200-passenger ship also offers a host of entertainment experiences across its 19 decks and six themed areas, including the onboard version of the hit TV show Family Feud and over two dozen restaurants with venues. by Guy Fieri, Emeril Lagasse, Rudi Sodamin and the Chief Fun Officer of the line, Shaquille O’Neal.
Mardi Gras sails year-round from Port Canaveral, offering seven-day itineraries to the Eastern and Western Caribbean.
