Mardi Gras baptized in Port Canaveral
Carnival Cruise Line’s New Ship Tuesday Fat was christened today in Port Canaveral, Florida, during what Carnival has called a “Universe of Fun” celebration.
The event took place at the Mardi Gras Theater onboard, with Miss Universe Dominican Republic 2020 Kimberly Jiménez officially naming the ship as her godmother. She was joined by Miss Universe, Andrea Meza, and Miss USA, Asya Branch, who sang the national anthem. The event featured a procession of flags from the “World of Nations” to highlight the diversity of the 120 nationalities of the crew members.
Following remarks from Duffy and Carnival Corporation President and CEO Arnold Donald, Carnival friends and partners Romero Britto, Emeril Lagasse, Kathie Lee Gifford, Vanna White and Guy Fieri virtually congratulated the ship on the name of the ship and helped deliver the bottle of champagne to the ship. .
“Today’s christening ceremony of our flagship Mardi Gras, the first in the industry since our restart of operations, signifies enthusiasm and optimism as we seek to put our entire fleet back to service to customers by spring 2022, ”said Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line. “This ship has been such incredible guests during its pre-inaugural season and today’s celebration with our Chief Fun Officer Shaq, our Godmother Kimberly, and so many special guests has been extremely gratifying and moving.”

Carnival Chief Fun Officer and NBA Superstar Shaquille O’Neal was also on hand for the festivities to cut a ribbon for the grand opening of his Big Chicken quick-service restaurant.
Although Shaq has Big Chicken locations on earth, the one on Mardi Gras is the first at sea. The location will also be available on the new Sparkle of Carnival, as good as Mardi Gras’ upcoming sister ship Carnival celebration.

Mardi Gras’ The long-awaited debut was repeatedly delayed due to construction delays and the pandemic, and was finally delivered to Carnival Cruise Line in December 2020. On July 31, the ship finally set sail for its first passenger cruise, a seven night trip to Port Canaveral.
It is the largest cruise ship ever built by Carnival, weighing nearly 182,000 gross tons and carrying 5,282 double occupancy passengers. The ship has six themed areas: Grand Central, French Quarter, La Piazza, Summer Landing, Lido and The Ultimate Playground.
Highlights of Mardi Gras include the BOLT roller coaster, the two-story RedFrog Tiki Bar, the adults-only Serenity Retreat Solarium, Chibang! Chinese and Mexican Restaurant, Bonsai Sushi and Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewery.
