DRDO scientist Atul Dinkar Rane is the new CEO of BrahMos Aerospace

Rane, who took charge of the Indo-Russian joint venture of BrahMos Aerospace on Monday, was associated with the project from the start. This JV entity is known to produce the world-class BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system.

Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) Outstanding Scientist Atul Dinkar Rane is the new Managing Director of BrahMos Aerospace.

Rane, who took charge of the Indo-Russian joint venture of BrahMos Aerospace on Monday, was associated with the project from the start. This JV entity is known to produce the world-class BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system.

The new CEO, through his R&D, has made enormous contributions to the local design and development of Critical On-Board Computers (CBOs); avionics technologies for defense applications; material in loop simulation studies; and systems analysis, mission software development.

His contributions and techno-managerial leadership played an important role in the successful development and introduction of the formidable BrahMos weapon system into the Indian armed forces.

According to an official statement from BrahMos Aerospace, the new CEO joined DRDO in 1987 and started his career at the Defense Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) as System Manager. During his time there, he had not only performed simulation studies but also established modular real-time simulation test mechanisms for the locally designed and developed Akash surface-to-air missile system.

While at the Imarat Research Center (RCI) in the On-Board Computer Division, Mr. Rane led the development of on-board mission software for Agni-I missiles. For flawless testing and evaluation of on-board systems for various missile projects, he has been instrumental in establishing a unique integrated test bed.

He contributed as the program manager, avionics and systems integration for the program. He participated in the feasibility studies, development and planning, testing, integration and certification of DRDO embedded systems. All of this then culminated in a successful demonstration, induction and subsequent production of BrahMos. This missile system further enhanced the missile power of the Indian Armed Forces.

The new CEO of BrahMos Aerospace has also served as an adviser (defense technology), assigned to the Indian Embassy in Moscow. During his tenure, Indo-Russian technical collaborations made good progress. Later, as Director of International Cooperation, he played an important role in strengthening joint developments and collaborations in defense R&D.

He has also represented India in several intergovernmental cooperations and his expertise in defense technology management and international S&T outreach efforts have helped fill technology gaps. While pushing the products developed by the DRDO for export, Mr. Rane also helped identify futuristic areas for joint research.

While working at the Center for Systems Analysis and Modeling as a director, he was responsible for playing a key role in systems analysis. And to further develop advanced weapon systems, he conducted extensive feasibility studies.

Where was before this new meeting?

At DRDO headquarters in New Delhi, as manager of one of the facilities, he led various activities of national significance. It played an important role in indigenizing critical missile technologies and spurred the manufacture of defense platforms in India.

The prestigious DRDO Path Breaking Research / Outstanding Technology Development Award and DRDO Performance Excellence Award were awarded to him.

He is also an active member of several professional societies such as Society of Aerospace Quality and Reliability; IT Company of India; Aviation Company of India; Systems Society of India.

He graduated in Electronics and Communications Engineering and obtained his graduate degree in Guided Missiles from Poona University.
