Celebrity Cruises Adds a Digital Layer to Health Precautions
Royal Caribbean Group brand Celebrity Cruises said a new partnership with digital health company Sharecare will help provide customers with peace of mind knowing that every effort is being made to protect them from COVID-19 and other public health epidemics.
Celebrity is implementing the Sharecare Health Security VERIFIED system, which will ensure that health and safety measures – from employee well-being and safety to on-board disinfection to contactless adaptations for in-room dining – are complete and closely followed by crew members.
To maintain a ship’s “Sharecare Health Security VERIFIED” status, a team on each ship will perform a pre-cruise verification process, covering a long list of contact points, including embarkation and disembarkation, maintenance household and common areas and activities.

The technology solution allows Celebrity headquarters staff to follow the verification process in real time and ensure that each captain and crew confirms adherence to health and safety protocols outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the local ports.
On each Celebrity cruise, passenger boarding will not commence until the ship has received health security clearance from its executive committee. Once done, passengers will receive a notification via portable devices that their vessel has been rechecked and is ready to board.
“This notification and recheck between each cruise is meant to give travelers the peace of mind that every requirement has been met and confirmed by Celebrity staff,” the line said in a press release.
“We were extremely impressed with both the completeness of the Sharecare Health Security VERIFIED system and its ease of use for our staff,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises. “As the Celebrity fleet returns to service, Sharecare will help verify our rigorous ‘Sound at Sea’ protocols, allowing our customers to simply relax and enjoy their vacation. “
